FAQ

Passport Questions

What is a passport?
A passport is a document, issued by a national government, which certifies, for the purpose of international travel, the identity and nationality of its holder. A passport does not entitle its bearer to entry into another country – each country has its own entry requirements and for entry to many countries travelers need to carry an entry visa in addition to the passport.

What is the difference between a passport and a visa?
A visa is a permission granted by a foreign government for the bearer to enter that country and to remain there for a specific period of time. Visas are issued by the Embassies or Consulates of the countries, to which a person intends to travel. Allstate Passports & Visas helps process visas for US citizens and permanent residents to most countries of the world.

Who can issue passports?
A United States passport can only be issued by the US Department of State, Passport Agencies that are part of the State Department structure and Foreign Service Posts (US Embassies and Consulates) designated by the US Secretary of State. Agencies that provide passport services in the USA, such as Allstate Passports and Visas, submit passport applications on the traveler’s behalf to the authorized issuing offices, and help facilitate expedited passport processing.

I am not a US citizen. Can Allstate Passports help me obtain a passport?
Allstate Passports and Visas only helps US citizens with US passport processing. A United States passport cannot be issued to a person who is not a citizen of the USA. Foreign nationals should contact the Embassy of the country of their nationality/citizenship with questions regarding renewing or obtaining a new passport.

Can my child be included on my passport?

Every person, including children, is required to have their own passport.

Visa Questions

What is a visa?
A visa is a permission granted by a foreign government for the bearer to enter that country and to remain there for a specific period of time. Visas are issued by the Embassies or Consulates of the countries, to which a person intends to travel. Most visas are usually a stamp or a sticker placed on one of the pages in a traveler’s passport. Allstate Passports & Visas helps process visas for US citizens and permanent residents to most countries of the world.

I am not a US citizen, can you help me process a foreign visa?
Visa requirements listed on this website pertain to US citizens. Allstate Passports & Visas can help with visa processing for most foreign nationals who are also permanent residents of the USA or are in the USA on a work or student visa. However, visa requirements may differ from those for US citizens, so we ask foreign nationals to contact us prior to sending in any application materials to reconfirm the requirements and service availability.

Can you process visas to several countries for me simultaneously?
Since most countries require a traveler’s original passport to be submitted with application materials, visas to different countries cannot be processed simultaneously. When applications for several countries are submitted to Allstate Passports and Visas, we will consider each destination country’s holidays and other factors affecting processing times and will decide on the best sequence to ensure the fastest processing of all visas.

I have a page in my passport with one small stamp on it – can a foreign visa be put on that page?
Generally no. Almost all foreign Consulates require that there be a completely blank Visa page, free of any stamps or markings. Visas cannot be put on the Amendments pages in the back of the passport – those pages are reserved for the government of the country that issued your passport to put amendments or endorsements on. Consular offices of certain countries require 2 blank visa pages in order for them to issue you a visa – please check the requirements for each country in the VISAS section of this website.

Can you help me obtain a United States visa?
No. Allstate Passports & Visas helps US citizens and permanent residents obtain visas to visit other countries. We do not help foreign nationals residing outside of the USA obtain a visa to enter the United States.

Miscellaneous Questions

What forms of payment do your accept?
Allstate Passports & Visas accepts credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), personal and company checks, money orders and cashier’s checks, as well as cash when you apply in person at our office. Personal checks are not accepted for expedited services that take less than 1 week. For credit card payments there is an authorization form that needs to be filled out and signed by the card holder.

Can I pay for my passport/visa using a credit card over the phone?
Credit card companies require merchants to have the card holder’s signature on file should a dispute arise. Our company policy is to obtain the card holder’s signature for each transaction. We do make special arrangements for a credit card authorization to be placed on file for frequent customers and corporate clients.

How do you ship my passport back to me?
When maling your documents to us, you will be able to specify the preferred return shipping option on the Order Form. You can either include your own prepaid envelope, a FedEx account number, or include payment for FedEx delivery. Allstate Passports & Visas uses FedEx for return shipping with overnight, second day and third day delivery options available to most destinations (see prices on the Order Form). We cannot use the applicant’s shipping account with couriers other than FedEx, as we don’t have shipping supplies for other shipping companies. You can, however, include your own envelope and shipping label with your shipper account specified for UPS or another such service. Keep in mind that we do not have scheduled pick-up at our location for any service other than FedEx, so if you choose to use another service, your documents may not be shipped back to you the same day a visa or passport is issued. NOTE: We do not accept labels that list COD or a credit card number as the form of payment. Shipping fees to Alaska, Hawaii and to addresses outside of the USA are higher – please check the Order Form for AK and HI fees, or call us to verify shipping costs if your passport is being returned to a foreign address.
